Rarely played but widely admired, Enescu's "Dixtuor", composed for two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two horns and two bassoons, will resound for the first time in 1 Belgrave Square thanks to the daring initiative of the young Romanian conductor and alumnus of the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, Andrei Gocan. more MUSIC 5 May, 1pm St Martin-in-the-Fields London free THE SCORES OF ASCENT Our crowd-pleasing concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields feature a rare musical treat: a recital for pipe organ at four hands. Romania's most famous organist duo, Dan Racoveanu and Fernanda Romila, are filling the solemn interiors of Trafalgar Square's musical temple with the uplifting tones of this extraordinary instrument. more FESTIVAL 13-15 May RCI London   TRANSYLVANIAN FEAST: EXHIBITION, CONCERT & LECTURES Join us for a star-studded celebration of the astonishing Transylvania through colour, sound and spoken word. Together with the Romanian Embassy in London, we are proud to support and host Transylvania Festival organised by ADEPT Foundation, an institution devoted to the preservation of the historical and natural patrimony of one of the most beautiful regions in the world. Featuring a group of painters, supported by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, pianist Alexandra Dariescu, violonist Alexandru Tomescu, Monooka, Dr John Akeroyd, Jessica Douglas-Home, Satish Kumar, Artemis Cooper. more LITERATURE 14 May, 7pm The European Bookshop London free BOGDAN SUCEAVA AT THE NEW HOTSPOT OF ROMANIAN LITERATURE IN LONDON California-based novelist Bogdan Suceava is the first Romanian author to feature in the RCI's series of literary encounters that will take place at the European Bookshop off Piccadilly Circus. The author will converse with poet and editor Stephen Watts, a refined connoisseur of Romanian prose and verse, about Miruna, a Tale, recently published in English translation by Twisted Spoon Press. A collection of autobiographical and folk tales set in the Carpathians, the book is a fascinating family history. MORE MUSIC  20 & 21 May, 8pm Vortex London & Lakeside Arts Centre Nottingham   prodigious lUCIAN BAN, back in britain Hailed by "All about Jazz" as one of the most creative new musicians on the New York City scene, and reviewed by major British Jazz Journals such as "Jazzwise" and "Jazz Journal",  ingenious composer and pianist Lucian Ban hits the British jazz circuits again, with performances at famed Vortex in London and Nottingham's Lakeside Arts Centre. The Transylvania-native, who is promoting his latest album entitled Mystery, is accompanied by Abraham Burton, John Herbert and Eric McPherson, making up the famous Elevation Quartet. MORE FILM 22 May, 7pm RCI London free PETER STRICKLAND'S ATMOSPHERIC REVENGE-STORY KATALIN VARGA AT THE ROMANIAN CINEMATHEQUE The Romanian Cinematheque features Peter Strickland's impressive debut Katalin Varga, a greatty tale of violence and revenge. Made over a long period of time and financed entirely by independent sources, the film went on to win the Silver Bear in Berlin and The European Film Academy's Discovery of the Year award in 2009. MORE     DANCE & THEATRE 25 May, 3pm Leicester Square Theatre London CHOREOGRAPHIC EXTRAVAGANZA "ZIC ZAC" OPENS IN LONDON "Zic Zac", the volcanic debut feature of choreographer Andrea Gavriliu, will be performed in London as part of the widely enjoyed "Tales Told in Romanian" series, developed by independent promoter Claudia Cîrlig in partnership with RCI London. Described as dynamic and unpredictable, the show narrates the stormy affair between two strangers who meet in a trendy nightclub.  MORE     POETRY & THEATRE  29 May, 7pm RCI London free LEGENDARY ACTOR DOREL VISAN LAUNCHES OUR NEW PERFORMANCE SERIES "POETS TO THE BONE" Thespian Dorel Visan, a giant of Romanian stage and film, will open our newest programme with a homage event to the greatest Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu. "Poets to the Bone" is a series of small-scale yet dazzling performances, based on the great Romanian poetical and theatrical tradition and starring some of the greatest names in Romanian theatre.  MORE   ONGOING VISUAL ARTS  14 March - 14 June Eastside Projects, Birmingham THE FIRST UK SOLO EXHIBITION OF LATE VISUAL MAVERICK IOANA NEMEȘ When her sudden death at only 32 hit the news in 2011, Ioana Nemeș had established herself as one of Romania's most celebrated and original artists.
